Alternative metrics

Alternative publication metrics

A publication registered in Pure should have a Digital Object Identifier (DOI) for the VBN Research Portal to collect alternative publication metrics (also known as "New Metrics"). The VBN Team offers the service to allot DOIs for publications that have not been published elsewhere already, e.g. reports or working papers. Contact us at vbn@aub.aau.dk.

Alternative metrics supplement traditional metrics (citations, H-index, JIF etc.) and consists of a number of different metrics, such as:

  • Downloads
  • Number of Tweets
  • Sharing on Facebook
  • Blog posts
  • Articles filed in Mendeley
  • Wikipedia links

There are various providers of alternative metrics. The VBN Research Portal displays:

AltmetriC

Altmetric shows how much attention a publication has received. A so-called donut is drawn up that consists of different colours. The colours cover the sources included in the donut by Altmetric.
